(WEST HAVEN, CT) Decades following his retirement as one of the region’s most-popular Modified drivers, just mentioning the name "Billy Greco" is bound to elicit a favorable response from those he competed-against, and the fans that cheered for him at tracks all over New England during a long, successful career.

Fact-is, racing folks just plain-like Billy Greco.

Those fans & drivers showed-up in droves on Saturday evening March 28th for his NEAR Movie Party held at the Polish American Club in West Haven, CT.

All proceeds benefitted the New England Auto Racing Hall of Fame. Greco himself is a 1999 inductee.

A wide assortment of Hall of Famers attended along with a large cast of some of the region’s top-shelf racers. Many tracks both past & present were represented. It was a great opportunity for autograph-seekers.

Fun, food, and plenty of entertaining yarns showcasing the early days of the sport were the order of the evening. Toss-in some great vintage racing videos, photo displays, and many one-of-a-kind raffle prizes and you have another patented Greco production honoring short track racing in New England.

“We do this for a couple of reasons” stated Greco. “One, it’s for a great cause - the Hall of Fame, and two, it gives everyone a chance to get-together during the off-season. Our aim is to send everyone home happy tonight.”

Hall of Fame Racing Journalist Pete Zanardi was suitably impressed with both the event, and the large turnout. “What Billy does with these parties is proof of both his dedication to the Hall of Fame, and to his enduring popularity as a New England racing personality” he stated.

A non-profit endeavor, since 1998 NEAR has inducted 196 individuals into the New England Auto Racers Hall Of Fame, which is administered by the New England Antique Racers. Some notable inductees include Richie Evans, Ron Bouchard, Bugs Stevens, Rene Charland, Pete Hamilton, Fred DeSarro, Ed Flemke, Sr. and Billy Greco among others.
