(MALTA, NEW YORK) New England Auto Racing Hall of Famer Billy Greco will serve as Grand Marshal for the Albany-Saratoga Speedway’s season opener on April 17th.

2015 marks the 50th Anniversary for the facility which is located in Malta, New York.

An Albany-Saratoga track champion, Greco won the first-ever feature event held there in 1965 while at the controls of his brother George’s #43 coupe. The duo would become one of the winningest Modified teams in the region.

Inducted into the HOF in 1999, Greco began racing in 1951, and established himself in the sport early-on by winning track championships at West Haven (CT) in 1955, and again in ’56 and ’58. He won Saturday night championships at Riverside Park (MA) in 1965 and '67, and also took down several Tuesday night track championships at The Park. His combined feature win total at Riverside is 68 including five 500 lap team races.

Greco’s success was not limited to just driving for Harvey Tattersall’s United Stock Car Racing Club. He was a charter member of the All Star Racing League and had success on both dirt and asphalt. In the late-60s he tried his hand with NASCAR. Later in his career he joined the SNYRA and was a feature winner at Connecticut’s Danbury Racearena.

Other tracks in-which he recorded main event wins include Plainville Stadium (CT), Rhinebeck (NY), Lonsdale (RI), Menands (NY), Stafford Speedway (CT), Waterford Speedbowl (CT), Freeport (Long Island, NY), Eastern States Exposition Fairgrounds (MA), Islip Speedway (Long Island, NY) and Pine Bowl (NY).

It’s estimated that Greco notched over 300 feature victories during his career.

Albany-Saratoga Speedway is located at 2671 U.S. Route 9 in Malta, New York.
